The United Kingdom of Roa Gracia (ロア = グレキア連合王国, Roa-Gurekia Rengou Oukoku?) is the setting for Death, Be Not Proud and Darkest Before the Dawn.

The United Kingdom is the last surviving despotic monarchy on the continent, located in the Dragon Corpse Mountain Range. It is ruled by the Idinarohk dynasty and its capital is Arcs Styrie.

Culture[]

Flag[]

The nation's coat of arms consists of two unicorns flanking a shield and crown. The unicorn is the national symbol of Roa Gracia, while the crown would represent the Idinarohk dynasty.

Cuisine[]

The United Kingdom was reliant on synthetic food production as the Eintagsfliege blotted out the sun, creating longer winters that made it even more difficult to grow crops on their already meagre land. As the Legion continued to hamper their energy production, their food production was also affected, effectively starving the United Kingdom before help from the Federacy arrived. Their synthetic foods consisted of artificial jams, bread, potatoes, meat, and a variety of condiments, all of which were described as being bland.[3]

The United Kingdom prefers tea over coffee as their hot beverage of choice.[4]

Ethnicities[]

The nation's principal racial group are the Viola, which make up the middle and noble classes. The working class is comprised of serfs of various races from conquered territories. Despite calling them serfs, living conditions for them are not terrible. The classes are free to mingle and there is rarely unrest between them.[5] There are cases of fairly high ranking positions at the royal palace filled with those of the serf class, examples include an Emeraud Chamberlain and the fifth prince's milk sister.

Language[]

Roa Gracia's national language is what would be considered modern English (although it is unknown if they call the language by that name), much like the rest of the continent. Due to the diversity present in the nation, other languages are spoken along side or in place of the official language by those of the serf class.[5] While they speak the same language as San Magnolia, Giad, and Wald, there are dialectal differences between the nations.[5]

Geography[]

Although its climate is unsuitable for cultivating grains or fruit, the land of Roa Gracia is fertile, possessing large rivers and rich mineral veins.

Climate[]

Roa Gracia has a subarctic climate.

Chronology[]

Dragon Fang Campaign[]

The Legion had deployed a massive number of Eintagsfliege over the skies of the United Kingdom, creating multiple layers of thick metal clouds which shielded the country from sunlight. This resulted in a prolonged winter which devastated the United Kingdom's agricultural regions in the south. Facing such a dire situation, the higher-ups of the United Kingdom swallowed their pride and asked the Federal Republic of Giad for assistance.

In response to their plight, the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package was dispatched to the United Kingdom. To end the sunlight blockage, the energy source for Eintagsfliege must be eliminated. Thus, the goals of joint operation were to retake Dragon Fang Mountain and suppress the Legion production site, with the capture the Merciless Queen as an extra objective. The Eighty-Sixth Strike Package would lead the assault while the United Kingdom's 1st Armored Corps served as the backup. According to the plan, the 1st Armored Corps would attack the Legion's positions as a diversion, while the Strike Package would take advantage of the resulting gap in the Legion's defensive line to infiltrate and seize control of the Dragon Fang Mountain. The Revich Observation Base—lying seventy kilometers north of the Dragon Fang Mountain—would serve as their base of operation.

Unfortunately, This first attempt to retake the Dragon Fang Mountain ended in a disaster. The Legion used the sunlight blockage to lure the United Kingdom's southern front to take the offensive and crush them. As a result, the entire diversionary force was wiped out completely. Furthermore, they were forced to abandon the Revich Observation Base after days of fierce fighting due to the collapse of their front line. Consequently, The Legion finally gained foothold in the United Kingdom territory and continued their advance to the second defensive line.

The United Kingdom was now on the brink of collapse. Had the Legion successfully penetrated the second defensive line, they would enter an open terrain where the Legion had immense advantages.

Military[]

Overview[]

In the United Kingdom, the military has—more often than not—been the domain of the nobility. The Viola are obligated to defend the country and enlist in wartime, while the other races fulfil their obligation to the country through production work. In recent times, however, more serfs have been encouraged to volunteer due to a lack of manpower. While they mostly understood it was necessary, some of the Viola opposed the introduction of serfs into the military, claiming that defending the nation was solely their right and obligation. Unlike the Vargus of the Federacy, the serfs are allowed to enter officer academies and have—on paper—the same privileges as their Viola compatriots. In practice, there is a clear difference in rank and station between the Viola veterans and the greenhorn serfs.[3] Aside from human combatants, the United Kingdom fields a force of artificial intelligence known as the Sirins, which comprise of roughly half of the United Kingdom's armored forces.

As for their equipment, the United Kingdom specifically designs their Feldreẞ with cold temperatures in mind. Both of their mainstay Feldreẞ are designed for winter warfare, optimizing for mobility on snow and ice.

The Southern Front of the nation was led by the fifth prince Viktor Idinarohk and his 1st Armored Corps. Following the success of the Dragon Fang Mountain Operation and the expulsion of the Legion from the plains connecting the United Kingdom with its collaborating nations, Viktor Idinarohk and his unit was sent as the nation's representatives for the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package.
