The Throne (自走自爆兵器, Suroune?) is a prototype anti-tank projectile developed by Svetlana Idinarohk. It was used by the Eighty Six Strike Package during the raid of the Dragon Fang Mountain. [1]
Description[]
Throne is based off siege defense weapons from the Middle Ages, where a heavy, combustible object was dropped from above and used kinetic energy and firepower to bring ruin to the sieging side. The projectile was a pair of steel wheels, with diameters of three meters. They were connected by two small cylinders, giving them the shape of bobbins or cable reels. The cylinders contain The 1.8-ton heavy explosives with proximity fuse. A number of sensors are built into the Throne as well as the IFF devices and radars. Additionally, it is equipped with the jet engine granting the projectiles further propulsion in addition to gravity pulling them down.
There are two varieties of these wheel-shaped, self-propelled, self-destructing weapons, though the two aren’t distinguished by appearance. One type scatters shrapnel upon bursting and is meant to be used against lightly armored targets. The other is meant for handling tanks and units with more fortified armor and unleashes self-forging fragments.
Throne must be delivered to target by some means. For example, using electromagnetic catapults salvaged from disabled Zentaurs. The sensors built into Throne detect its posture and correct its bearings as it land. Once Throne touches down, the circular object will start rolling to the target guided by IFF devices and radars. It is also accelerated further by the jet engine. Once it comes close to the target, the proximity fuse will denotate the explosive in cylinders.
Trivia[]
- Like many inventions developed by Amethystus of Idinarohk family, the Throne wasn’t invented out of necessity. Svetlana invented it simply because she could.
- The Throne resembles the Panjandrum, a large rocket-propelled, explosive carrying cart designed by the British during the Second World War. But instead as a defensive weapon, the Panjandrum was designed from the beginning as a siege engine.
