Sylvain Renard (シルヴァン・レナル Shiruvan Renaru?) was a minor character in the 86 -Eighty Six- series.
His Personal name was Laughing Fox (ラフィングフォックス Rafingufokkusu?), but often referred to as Fox Commander (狐の大長 Kitsune no Taichou?) in Theo's recollections of him.
He was Theo's first squadron leader and was hated due to the fact that he was an Alabaster, a sub-race of the Alba. He was a member of the Armed Forces before its decimation.
Appearance[]
Although he has not appeared in illustrations in the light novel nor the anime, we can assume that he had the Snow-White hair and eyes of an Alabaster. In the manga, he is depicted to have short hair and wears the standard Processors uniform.[1]
Personality[]
Not much is known about Renard's personality, but we can assume that he had the same views as Lena in regards to the Eighty-Six, although he was a bit more outspoken and practical about it. He was brave and generally put himself before others, as it is shown when Theo mentions that he did not run away and died in battle, contrary to his squadron's belief that he was a self-righteous Alba who could retreat to the 85 districts if things went south.
Even though he was hated by the rest of his squadron, thinking that he was just a cowardly Alabaster, he gladly gave his life for them, showing his compassion and kindness to the others. Renard's last words had a profound impact on Theo, which is the reason why he adopted the Personal Name Laughing Fox
Background[]
Renard had a family, which included his son, Miel Renard. He was a former soldier in the Republic Armed Forces, which were decimated in a little less than two weeks by the Legion. When the Special Wartime Peace Preservation Act was passed down, he did not cower to behind the Gran Mur and remained in the military, becoming a squadron leader to Theo's first squadron.
Abilities[]
Since he was a former Republic soldier, he could be implied to have basic military training, and a skilled Juggernaut operator. He was seen tinkering on his personal Juggernaut, which implies that he had some basic mechanical skills.
