The Siege of Rosenfort (ローゼンフォルト包囲戦, Rо̄zenforuto Houisen?) was a siege held against the remnants of the Giadian Empire by the Federal Republic of Giad. Fearing what has become of her protector, Empress Frederica fled the fort and allowed herself to be captured by the Federacy. Believing their liege had perished, the Imperial Guard garrisoning the last bastion of the Empire fell soon after, ending the Giadian Revolution and dissolving the Giadian Empire.
Background[]
Prior to the Siege of Rosenfort, the Legion War has been lasting for five years. Caused by the warmongering of the Giadian nobles, the local population who grew tired of the war rose up in a massive revolt against the Giadian Empire. Shortly after the start of the revolution and her coronation, Augusta Frederica had been driven out of the Imperial Palace at Sankt Jeder and fled along with the rest of the imperial faction.[1] They made the remote fortress of Rosenfort their domicile, which eventually became their final stronghold.
Prelude[]
As the revolution progressed in the favor of the Revolutionary army led by Ernst Zimmerman, they decided on besieging the fort in an attempt to end the revolution and the Legion War.
Battle[]
The battle for the Empire's final line of defense was described to fierce.[1] As the Legion could not be deployed effectively alongside human combatants, the Royal Guard had to face the Revolutionary Army without adequate support. Before the Empress' supposed death, they fought against their fellow countrymen to their last breath, unknowing of the fact that some of their kin had already submitted to the Federacy.
The Empress could not take any more of the fighting. She feared her personal knight's mental state, running away to the Revolutionary Army. The Royal Guard and the fort was conquered in the end, following the raising of Augusta Frederica's bloodied mantle.
Aftermath[]
The Siege of Rosenfort was the final chapter that ended the Giadian Revolution in favor of the Revolutionaries. This victory resulted in the legitimization of the Federal Republic of Giad as its sole and rightful government with Ernst Zimmerman as the interim president of the newly founded Federacy. Augusta Frederica Adel-Adler, whose death was faked with the help of Ernst was given the new identity of Frederica Rosenfort. The turn of events established the belief that the final empress of the Giadian Empire had perished along with the majority of its backers, who either supposedly perished along with the young empress or were willingly assimilated into the ranks of the Legion.
The Siege of Rosenfort saw the demise and collapse of the Royal Guard, who assumed that Frederica had died under siege. One of the guardsmen, Kiriya Nouzen, willingly assimilated himself into the ranks of the Legion, granting him access to the Morpho, which in turn was the key weapon used by the Legion to launch their First Great Offensive in the Legion War.
Legacy[]
With the revolution coming to its conclusion with the siege, the main cause of the revolution was still something that the Federacy continued to struggle with.
The transition from the Empire to the Federacy resulted that anyone who had a high enough rank in the Empire has perished. This resulted that there was no one left alive to effectively shut down the Legion threat. Thus, the Federacy had to reclaim former Giadian territory from the Legion by force.
