Richard Altner (リヒャルト・アルトナー Rihyaruto Arutonā?) was a secondary supporting character in the 86 -Eighty Six- series introduced in Run Through the Battlefront.
Richard was the commander of the 177th Armored Division.
Appearance[]
Richard was a thirty years old man with jet-black hair and eyes of an Onyx. He wore a black eyepatch to cover his missing eye.
He was often seen wearing the Federacy military officer dress uniform, consisting of shoulder tabs that denoted his rank as a Major General.
Personality[]
Richard Altner has a stern, serious personality. As a seasoned veteran who had fought Legion since the beginning, Richard is a capable commanding officer who remains calm even in a desperate situation. He profoundly understands the need for practicality and is willing to make a cruel choice to accomplish the mission.
Richard has a strong sense of professionalism. For him, the military and its soldiers are but tools for governing. The soldiers' duty is not fighting for their own sake but for the country they belong. He expects the same notion from his subordinates. Hence, he detests the death-seeker mentality of the Eighty-six since they only die for themselves, and the death of highly-skilled soldiers is a demerit to the Federacy's war effort.
Nonetheless, Richard is not without compassion. During the period before the first large-scale offensive, he deliberately broke the Nordlicht Squadron into platoons and had them operating separately. So, the squadron could avoid archiving too many feats and subsequently receiving more dangerous tasks or being loathed by other soldiers.
Background[]
Richard hailed from a former Giad noble family and therefore was able to study at a military academy, while there he received a military officer education.
During a conversation with Willem, it has been revealed that he has been in the army for 20 years, however, only 10 years of which were spent on the frontlines.[9]
At one point in time he lost his eye.
Plot[]
Volume 11: Dies Passionis[]
Richard took command of the expeditionary force during Operation Lorica Sacra and died during combat, along with the rest of the headquarters defense regiment which acted as a rearguard against the Legion.
Abilities[]
With the rank of Major General as well as his background at the Federacy military academy, it is noted that Richard is capable of commanding his troops during combat.

Not much was known about their relationship though like Richard, she was appeared to like to get involved with the lives of the younger officers as she and Willem's sister were enthusiastic to dress Lena and Annette for a Halloween party.
Reki Michihi[]
Michihi is Richard's adopted daughter. She was adopted as all nobles were required to adopt Eighty-Six for their rehabilitation and integration into Giadan society for better postwar opportunities. His family provided her with a dress for the ball during their vacation in the Alliance of Wald. The extent of their personal relationship is unknown but she appeared to be saddened when he died.
