86 - Eighty Six - Wiki

John (ジヨン Jiyon?) is a minor character of the 86 -Eighty Six- series.

He served as a Handler of an unknown processor squadron during his time as a Second Lieutenant in the San Magnolian Armed Forces.[2]

After the First Great Offensive, he was fired from his position in the military and stripped of his rank.

Appearance[]

John is an middle-aged man who has very short hair and silver eyes of an Alba. His most notable feature is his obese appearance and is often seen with flustered cheeks as a result of his drinking habits on the job.

While on duty, John wears the Republic's standard Prussian blue male dress uniform, with officer shoulder and collar tabs that denote his rank as a Second Lieutenant. His uniform is often dirty with stains and unkempt because of his negligence and the lack of proper care.

In the winter section Episode 23, he is seen wearing dirty civilian clothing consisting a green winter jacket, which implies that he has been fired from the military.

Personality[]

John is shown to agree with the majority of the Alba population in regards of the Eighty-Six, viewing them as none human. Commenting that he has lost five processors during a battle, because of this sentiment; he would rather drink on the job than put more effort in his occupation as a handler.

Background[]

John's upbringing is largely unknown, however, at some point in time, he joined the ranks of the Republic of San Magnolian Armed Forces as a Second Lieutenant and became a handler of an unknown processor squadron.

In Episode 1, John is seen drinking along with his friends: Sanders and Tom, laughing about the casualties of their processors and mocking Major Vladilena Milizé for her views in regards to the Eighty-Six as she walked passed them, asking why she has a long face.

In Episode 12, he is seen alongside his friends, drinking and mocking Lena as she passed them by. As he mocked her for being demoted for the sake of the Eighty-Six as well as the only one wearing a black uniform.[3]

In Episode 16. On the 25th of August—the night of the Large-Scale Offensive—John is seen again with his friends, drinking and laughing when an alarm goes off. Clearly annoyed by the alarm he covered his ears and demanded the sound to be turned off, completely ignorant of the situation.

John is seen again in Episode 23, having survived the Large-Scale Offensive, alongside his friends. He was seen standing in line in civilian clothing waiting for food that were handed out by soldiers of the Federacy of Giad. While in line his friend; Sanders accused the Giad soldiers for giving an Alba child more food than him. John asked in disgrace how it all came to this.[4]

Abilities[]

With the rank of Second Lieutenant and being a Handler, John has the ability to coordinate the processors under his command and provide tactical support during combat against the Legion on paper. However in reality just like with many Handlers within the San Magnolian Military he is shown to be incompetent and completely neglecting his duties as a Handler. This is evident that he seems to be using reckless tactics against the Legion as he noted to have lost five processors during one battle.

His low tolerance towards alcohol is also shown as he is often seen flustered when drinking. John has therefore no known combat experience nor leadership skills that has been seen so far that should apply to a handler.
