Henrietta von Penrose (アンリエッタ・フォン・ペンローズ Anrietta fon Penrо̄zu?), nicknamed Annette (アネット Anetto?) in the present and Rita (リッタ Ritta?) in her childhood, is a primary supporting character in the 86 -Eighty Six- series.
She is a member of the Republic Armed Forces and later the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package. She serves in the Research Division and specializes on working on the Para-RAID system her father developed. Her involvement as the Para-RAID system's head researcher designated her as a high-priority target with the callsign of Minerva (ミネルウァ Mineruua?).
Appearance[]
Annette has her Celena silver hair cut at neck-length with bangs reaching her silver eyes. Her outfit on duty consists of the female Republic uniform paired with a lab coat, sometimes forgoing the blue overcoat for just the shirt. She also occasionally wears glasses.
Personality[]
Annette is a workaholic and as a result she will often wake up late into the day. Her professional mask before the First Great Offensive hid the guilt and loneliness she felt. When it came to dropping that mask, usually only in front of Lena, Annette was equal parts sassy and earnest. She'd playfully badmouth her suitors while showing her friend genuine care. Still, she hid her frustrations with Lena's righteousness to an unhealthy degree, eventually lashing out at her. Her apathy toward the plight of the Eighty-Six was merely a defense mechanism in order to stave away the pain of betraying Shin.
She recognized that joining the Strike Package was—in part—a selfish attempt at atonement, but one that did her good nonetheless. After apologizing to Shin, as well as her constant interaction with the Eighty-Six, Annette seemed to express herself more freely and be less weighed down by the sins of her childhood.
Background[]
Annette was born in the Republic of San Magnolia to the Penrose family, the former imperial noble family that migrated from the Giadian Empire. [10] She was a childhood friend of Shin before the war began, often playing with each other as their parents were friends. During the first year of the oppression against Eighty-Six by the government of the Republic, Annette's family provided shelter for Shin's family to hide from the officials. That was until Annette was bullied for being friends with a Colorata boy. Feeling dejected, she lashed out against Shin. When her father was pondering whether to hide Shin's family away when Presidential Order #6609 was established, she asked her father to kick Shin's family out. As a result, Shin's family was sent to the Eighty-Sixth Sector.
Annette was a friend of Lena's since secondary school. She skipped a grade along with Lena, and thus she is Lena's only friend who is the same age.
After her father was killed during the testing of the Para-RAID device, she took on her father's role as a developer. Although it was stated to be an accident, her father took his own life. He was unable to bear the guilt of betraying the Nouzens and engaging in human experimentation. Annette also bears regrets of betraying her childhood friend. She understood the true situation of the Republic, but did not have the will to change it due to feeling powerless.
Abilities[]
As a technical officer and the daughter of a renowned neuroscientist, Annette is the leading expert on the Para-RAID device. She was able to carry on the work of her father and continues to refine the technology for the war effort. Her intelligence was proven in her childhood as she was able to skip a grade along with Lena.
Quotes[]
