Grethe Wenzel (グレーテ・ヴェンツェル Gurēte Ventseru?) is a secondary supporting character in the 86 -Eighty Six- series introduced in Run Through the Battlefront.

Grethe is the developer of the XM2 Reginleif and the heir to WHM, a family owned military-industrial complex. She was previously the commander of the 1028th Trial Unit, created in order to test her newly developed Feldreß.

Grethe was later appointed as the Federal Republic of Giad's representative for the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package, of which she commands the entire Strike Package as the unit commander.

Appearance[]

Grethe has blond hair and purple eyes. She cuts her hair short and wears the Federacy's military uniform consisting of a black suit and red tie covered by a dark steel-colored panzer jacket.

Personality[]

Unlike her cold-hearted colleagues, Grethe has a warm and amicable personality. She dislikes excessive formality and prefers to engage with her subordinates casually.

Grethe is notably more compassionate than former aristocrats like Richard and Willem. She is vehemently against the idea of the Eighty-six being an irredeemable tool of war. Grethe supported the rehabilitation program for the Eighty-six. She was also a vocal critic of the decision to send the Nordlicht Squadron on a suicide mission to destroy Morpho.

She is known for her boldness to the point of being reckless. She was bold enough to fly an unarmed transport plane and drop the Nordlicht squadron into the Legion-held territory.

As an heir to the giant industrial complex, Grethe is passionate about technologies and engineering. She enjoys designing unorthodox aircraft and vehicles, though she often does not pay enough attention to economic and ergonomic factors.

  • While the Reginleif has an impressive performance, it is a dangerously demanding machine that killed or seriously injured several test pilots.
  • Her proposed design of Nachzehrer II has many outrageous specifications and was costly to the point that the budget committee rejected her proposal unanimously.

Reputation[]

Grethe is infamous within the Western Army for designing the notoriously dangerous XM2 Reginleif, a unit which had killed or injured several test pilots. She also earned the derogatory nickname "Arms Dealer" for being the heir to a military-industrial complex.[6]

Background[]

Grethe was former member of the Giadian Air Force prior to its disbandment, and was transferred to the Army once the revolution was under way.[7] During the start of the war, Grethe was a Vánagandr pilot. Seeing too many companions die due to the slowness of the Vánagandr she vowed to create a Feldreß that was fast enough to reduce the number of casualties.[8] One of those casualties seemed to be her own fiancée.[1]

Abilities[]

Combat Skill[]

Grethe is one of the few surviving pilots from the Giadian Air Force. As such, she was one of the only people capable of flying the XC-1 Nachzehrer during the operation to eliminate the Morpho. She is also competent in operating her own creation, the XM2 Reginleif, as she survived alone without support when the Nordlicht Squadron was airdropped into Legion territory. After crash landing the Nachzehrer, Grethe encountered two Legion armored companies and survived single-handedly.[9] Much like Gilwiese, Grethe was extremely skilled in piloting the Vánagandr to the point that she didn't need a gunner to support her, operating both roles herself as she singlehandedly overwhelmed Legion units. In fact, she had refused to let anyone sit in her gunner's seat since the death of her fiancée. The feat earned her the nicknames Black Widow and Spider Woman, bestowed upon her by Willem himself.[1][10]
