The Eighty-Sixth Strike Package is an independent mobile brigade-sized Feldreß strike force created by the Federal Republic of Giad.

  +
As a foreign armored unit, it is primarily comprised of Eighty-Six Processors from the Republic of San Magnolia, as well as the mercenaries of the Vargus. The Strike Package is made up of two thousand Processors divided into four armored groups equivalent to regiments. These groups are further divided into several battalions, which are then made up of multiple squadrons. There are dozens of battalions and hundreds of squadrons in total. Each group is cycled in and out of operational activity, rest, and training. Two groups are active at any given moment.
History
The Strike Package was created following the elimination of the Morpho and the relief of San Magnolia by the Nordlicht Squadron. Due to the unique circumstances, personnel, and equipment of the Nordlicht Squadron, as well as the influx of new Eighty-Six joining the Federacy's war effort, they were not integrated into the regular forces. Thus, the Strike Package was established as a unit of foreign soldiers focusing on mobile deployment, equipped with the highly successful XM2 Reginleif.

  +
Background
The Strike Package was initially composed of a single division comprised of 168 Processors from both the Republic's Eastern Front and the Federacy's Nordlicht Squadron. Their number would decrease to approximately 100 Processors following the Charité Operation. In order to bolster their forces, three more armored divisions were recruited from the veterans of the Republic's Northern, Southern, and Western fronts.

  +
In spite of their successes in reclaiming their former territories, the Federacy had found itself losing a war of attrition against the Legion. Their losses from the war, especially in manpower, had been increasing in an unsustainable rate. The Western Army had lost sixty percent of its forces during the Legion's large-scale offensive alone. Moreover, they no longer had enough regular troops to replace their losses and had been struggling to find more troops. In contrast, the Legion could easily replenish their forces and still maintain their offensive initiative.

  +
To turn the tide of war, the Federacy was forced to reconsider their strategy. The success of Nordlicht Squadron during the operation to eliminate of the Morpho inspired the Federacy High Command to create a special independent unit to launch concentrated attacks on points of strategic interest. Additionally, this unit can be deployed to their allied nations as reinforcements whenever necessary.
Role
  +
The Strike Package is often sent to foreign battlefields and have accrued great achievements. Their role is to not only fight crucial battles, but also to increase public morale in the process. Despite the reluctance of its members, the Strike Package is seen as a company of tragic heroes by the Federacy, their stories of triumph lift the spirits of the populous.

  +
Fortunately for the Federacy, they had received a large influx of Eighty-Six veterans joining their war effort following the relief of San Magnolia. Having learnt from Nordlicht Squadron, the Federacy knew it would experience difficulty in integrating the Eighty-Six into regular units due to their conflicting doctrines and cultures. For instance,
  +
* Unlike Federacy soldiers, The Eighty-Six prioritized engaging the enemy over saving the injured to avoid becoming a easy target for the Legion themselves. Although their choice is a pragmatic one, it horrified many Federacy soldiers and reinforced their belief that the Eighty-Six were berserkers.
  +
* The Federacy's use of Feldreß is in line with traditional armored warfare, which emphasized direct engagement and heavy armor. The Eighty-Six, however, have developed their own doctrine which discourages a direct confrontation. Instead, they emphasized on using speed and agility to avoid being hit and outmaneuver the Legion. This stark contrast caused difficulties to the cooperation between the two groups. The Federacy's regular forces could not hope to keep up with the Eighty-Six, while the Eighty-Six disliked working with the slower and straightforward Vánagandr.
  +
  +
This was not necessarily a detriment to the Federacy. On the contrary, the battle-hardened and country-less Eighty-Six would be the perfect soldiers for the independent mobile strike force they required.
  +
  +
By the suggestion of the interim President, Ernst Zimmerman, and the commander of the 177th Armored Division, Richard Altner, the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package was thus established as an independent unit of foreign soldiers, separated from Federacy's regular units. Equipped with the highly successful XM2 Reginleif, the Strike Package was designed and organized to be a rapid deployment force able to strike at important Legion installations at a moments notice. The Strike Package was also intended to be a collaborative project between the continent's four powers: the Federal Republic of Giad, the Republic of San Magnolia, the United Kingdom of Roa Gracia, and the Alliance of Wald.
  +
  +
Modus Operandi
  +
The Strike Package's manner of operating separates each armored group and sends them to different battlefronts. As such, it is referred to as a "raiding unit" by Federacy soldiers. The two active groups are assigned a nation they are to reinforce, while the other two take their education and rest periods. There are cases where two armored groups collaborate, such as the 1st Armored Group and 2nd Armored Group's tour in the United Kingdom. There is also a case of collaboration with another raiding unit in the formation of the Federacy Expedition Brigade.
  +
  +
As a raiding unit, the Strike Package prides itself on swift assaults on critical positions. Their operations are less concerned about maintaining defensive lines or gaining territory in straightforward combat. Rather, the nimble nature of their Feldreß is used to cover great distances and infiltrate the Legion's zone of control. The Strike Package's speed is further enhanced by the use of airborne Feldreß with the Mk. 1 Armée Furieuse, the natural progression to the previous success of the XC-1 Nachzehrer.
  +
  +
While the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package is a collaborative effort between the continent's nations, it is still a Federacy unit at its core. Other member nations reserve the right to pull their support should any operation be against their strategic interests or beliefs. An example of this is when the United Kingdom refrained from sending Prince Viktor on the campaign in the Theocracy.
  +
  +
As other free units became attached to the various fronts following the Second Great Offensive and Operation Lorica Sacra, the Strike Package is the only force remaining that retains its role as a raiding unit. The unique position of the Strike Package forced their rotation to be reconsidered. The Strike Package is now fielded in its entirety in all operations, including the United Kingdom and Alliance dispatch units.

Reception
  +
The Strike Package has accrued great achievements during their operations across the continent. Their role is to not only fight crucial battles to cripple the Legion's hold, but also to increase public morale in the process. Despite the reluctance of its members, the Strike Package is seen as a company of tragic heroes by the Federacy, their stories of triumph lift the spirits of the populace.

Headquarters
  +
The home of the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package is located in the Giadian Wolfsland, a familiar region to former Nordlicht personnel. The newly built base of Rüstkammer was specifically designed for the Eighty-Six's special needs, both physical and mental. The base's barracks are equipped to host the brigade-sized unit's ten thousand Processors, a battalion's worth of support personnel such as mechanics and medics, as well as a thousand base personnel such as teachers and kitchen staff. Naturally, the base was designed to hold an equal number of Reginleifs in their hangars, as well as training grounds for their drills. The base also sports a runway for transport aircraft.
  +
  +
In order to support the rehabilitation of the Eighty-Six, Rüstkammer was specifically placed within the nature of the Wolfsland, while also having easy access to the nearby city of Fortrapide and its transportation facilities. The surrounding mountains, forests, and river provided the Eighty-Six with a familiar environment for outdoor activities such as hunting. Access to the city, meanwhile, was crucial for their integration into a peaceful society.
  +
  +
Following the Second Great Offensive and the abandonment of the previous front line, Rüstkammer was placed under consistent blackout so as to not be detected by the Legion. Meanwhile, Fortrapide also had a majority of its civilians evacuated.

"The Eighty-Sixth Strike Package. An independent mobile strike force that pilots Reginleifs, deployed to suppress the Legion's core locations. In effect, a foreign force composed of the Eighty-Six..." ― Richard Altner.[1]

The Eighty-Sixth Strike Package (第86独立機動打撃群ストライク・パッケージ Dai-Hachiroku Sutoraiku Pakkēji?) is an independent mobile brigade-sized Feldreß strike force created by the Federal Republic of Giad.

There are dozens of battalions and hundreds of squadrons in total.[4] Each group is cycled in and out of operational activity, rest, and training. Two groups are active at any given moment.[3]

Background[]

In spite of their successes in reclaiming their former territories, the Federacy had found itself losing a war of attrition against the Legion. Their losses from the war, especially in manpower, had been increasing in an unsustainable rate. The Western Army had lost sixty percent of its forces during the Legion's large-scale offensive alone. Moreover, they no longer had enough regular troops to replace their losses and had been struggling to find more troops. In contrast, the Legion could easily replenish their forces and still maintain their offensive initiative.

 • Unlike Federacy soldiers, The Eighty-Six prioritized engaging the enemy over saving the injured to avoid becoming a easy target for the Legion themselves. Although their choice is a pragmatic one, it horrified many Federacy soldiers and reinforced their belief that the Eighty-Six were berserkers.
 • The Federacy's use of Feldreß is in line with traditional armored warfare, which emphasized direct engagement and heavy armor.

This was not necessarily a detriment to the Federacy. On the contrary, the battle-hardened and country-less Eighty-Six would be the perfect soldiers for the independent mobile strike force they required.

The Strike Package was also intended to be a collaborative project between the continent's four powers: the Federal Republic of Giad, the Republic of San Magnolia, the United Kingdom of Roa Gracia, and the Alliance of Wald.[5]

Modus Operandi[]

The Strike Package's manner of operating separates each armored group and sends them to different battlefronts. As such, it is referred to as a "raiding unit" by Federacy soldiers.[4] The two active groups are assigned a nation they are to reinforce, while the other two take their education and rest periods. There are cases where two armored groups collaborate, such as the 1st Armored Group and 2nd Armored Group's tour in the United Kingdom. There is also a case of collaboration with another raiding unit in the formation of the Federacy Expedition Brigade.

As other free units became attached to the various fronts following the Second Great Offensive and Operation Lorica Sacra, the Strike Package is the only force remaining that retains its role as a raiding unit.[4] The unique position of the Strike Package forced their rotation to be reconsidered. The Strike Package is now fielded in its entirety in all operations, including the United Kingdom and Alliance dispatch units.[6]

Reception[]

The Strike Package has accrued great achievements during their operations across the continent. Their role is to not only fight crucial battles to cripple the Legion's hold, but also to increase public morale in the process. Despite the reluctance of its members, the Strike Package is seen as a company of tragic heroes by the Federacy, their stories of triumph lift the spirits of the populace.[7]

Headquarters[]

The base also sports a runway for transport aircraft.[1]

Access to the city, meanwhile, was crucial for their integration into a peaceful society.[1]

Following the Second Great Offensive and the abandonment of the previous front line, Rüstkammer was placed under consistent blackout so as to not be detected by the Legion. Meanwhile, Fortrapide also had a majority of its civilians evacuated.[8]

Achievements[]

 • Annihilation of Legion production sites by all armored groups.
 • Elimination of the Legion Shepherd "Pale Rider" by the Nordlicht Squadron.
 • Seizure of the Charité Underground Labyrinth by the 1st Armored Group.
 • Seizure of the Dragon Fang Mountain by the 1st and 2nd Armored Groups.
 • Capture of the Legion Shepherd "Merciless Queen" by the 1st and 2nd Armored Groups.
 • Elimination of the Legion's control bases in Regicide, including the Mirage Spire, by the 2nd and later 1st Armored Groups.

Trivia[]

 • Each armored group's First Squadron is named after the Republic's execution squadrons of the Eastern, Southern, Western, and Northern Fronts respectively.
 • Due to the detestation toward the Republic, many Federacy soldiers objected the appointment of Lena as a tactical commander.[1] These soldiers were allowed to air out their grievances by splashing her with buckets of water when she first arrived at Rüstkammer.

Footnotes[]

 1. Translated as Commodore in the light novels, but written as Brigadier General in the anime. Brigadier General is the correct term, as Commodore is the equivalent rank of the navy.
 • Armored Group (機甲班, Kikou Han?), also written as Armored Group (機甲グループ, Kikou Gurūpu?), is translated as Armored Division in the Yen Press translation. This translation is in conflict with the actual term for Armored Division (機甲師団, Kikou Shidan?), used for units such as the 177th Armored Division led by Richard Altner.
