The Dragon Fang Mountain Capture (竜牙大山攻略作戦, Ryuugataizan Kouryoku Sakusen?) was an operation which took place in Darkest Before the Dawn. The operation was the continuation of the Strike Package's mission in aiding the United Kingdom to regain control over the Dragon Corpse Mountain Range. The operation concluded in the successful capture of the Dragon Fang Mountain and the removal of Legion influence in the region.

Background[]

The withdrawal from the Revich Observation Base caused the mission of the Eighty-Sixth Strike Package to be even more arduous. The distance, they had to cross, now increased from 70 km to 90 km. Furthermore, the United Kingdom military’s main force was holding the line against the Legion’s front line; they did not have any units left to support the Strike Package. Hence, they could no longer employ the diversionary tactic and were forced to revise their battle plan completely.

A head-on assault was out of the question. The Strike Package was only the size of a brigade which was not enough to penetrate through the enemy’s defenses with brute force. There was the option of separating the enemy formation to land a concentrated blow at a point where their forces were thinner. However, the Strike Package was still a rather small force, and any attempt they might make to split up the enemy’s main force would likely fall short of expected results.

Using an airdrop was also considered. However, this idea was rejected since they did not have reliable means to transport the strike package. The last option was using missiles or artillery bombardment to open up an invasion route. Though there were still some problems. The missiles' guidance systems would not operate under the interference of Eintagsfliege and heavy artillery did not deal enough effective damage to Dinosauria. Nevertheless, they managed to come up with the solution which was recycling the Catapult Type Legion unit, Zentaur. While the processor could not operate Zentaur itself, its electromagnetic catapult was easy to operate with some modifications. These catapults could send projectiles, which were several dozen tons in weight, to the sky with a velocity of thirty kilometers per hour. Hence, they could be utilized as makeshift artillery which could fire a larger, more powerful shell than standard heavy artillery.

To produce a sufficient number of makeshift artilleries, the Strike Package had participated in many skirmishes along with the United Kingdom's second defensive line to hunt down a large number of Zentaurs and salvaged their electromagnetic catapults. At the same time, Prince Viktor had obtained permission for deploying "Thrones", an anti-tank projectile developed by his aunt, Svetlana Idinarohk.
