Cicada (思考支援デバイスツィカーダ Shikou Shien Debaisu, Tsikāda?) is the thought-support device created by Viktor Idinarohk. It was initially designed for Sirin Handlers, helping ease the strain of the Sensory Resonance.

Appearance[]

In its portable disengaged state, the Cicada is a choker made up of silver threads extending from the central quasi-nerve crystal. The color of the crystal and threads accented the device with a light violet, the color associated with the United Kingdom.

Upon activation, the silver threads that made up the device extends to envelop the user in a tight bodysuit which glowed faintly.[1] The design held the same silver and purple accented color scheme, with a darker color lining the shoulder pads, arms, and between the breasts down to the abdomen. The silver accents flowed into curves akin to a vine pattern. The collar of the bodysuit extends high enough to cover almost the entirety of the neck. It is unknown what the male version of the Cicada body suit looks like, or whether there is such a variant to begin with.

Description[]

The Cicada is a computation unit made up of quasi-nerve fibers, forming a network which acts as a supplementary brain. The quasi-nerves are powered by the user's own bioelectricity, explaining the form-fitting design of the Cicada. Its function is to lessen the strain of the Sensory Resonance device by distributing the load across the quasi-nerve network. The primary use case for the Cicada is to facilitate a larger amount of Para-RAID connections. For example, one handler can simultaneously resonate with only a squadron-sized unit or 24 people without noticeable strain. On the other hand, the user can resonate with over one hundred people without difficulty when using the Cicada.[2]

Despite its usefulness, Cicada is not popular among the United Kingdom's military personnel.[1] In addition to simple discomfort while in use, its form of a tight bodysuit makes its wearers look incredibly indecent. Interestingly enough, the Cicada is also worn by Sirin combatants such as Lerche, indicating sensory resonance has a similar effect on them as normal living humans.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The members of Eighty-Six Strike Package actively hid the information about the Cicada from Shin out of fear of his wrath. Shin only learned after he accidentally stumbled on Lena wearing it.
