The Azhi Dahāka (アジ・ダハーカ, Aji Dahāka?) is an assault-type custom Feldreß primarily manufactured and used by the Nouzen Clan and their private army, the Crazy Bones Division.
Nomenclature[]
Azhi Dahāka is a being from ancient Persian folklore who is considered the son of Ahriman in Zoroastrianism, roughly meaning either dragon man or burning dragon.
Description[]
The Azhi Dahāka is a "multi-purpose" Feldreẞ, so to speak; excelling in destructive power, mobility, and defensive power. It is a modified version of the Vánagandr prototype. However, it's maneuverability control, maintainability, fuel efficiency, weight, and operating time were all very poorly optimized, leading to the development and completion of the M4A3 Vánagandr, cutting down unnecessary structures and eliminating the excess parts of this machine.
Although it is an old, outdated model, it has been modernized and mass-produced by the Nouzen family, who have a huge amount of private wealth that can accommodate its construction budget, large fuel consumption and high maintenance costs, and compatible operators due to their unique bloodline. Therefore, although its range of operation is quite limited due to the above factors, it is humanity's "trump card" that can destroy even the Tank Type Löwe with relative ease and are strategically deployed at important points of interest.[1]
Armament[]
Its chassis is metal-black and is generally left unpainted by its Onyx operators. Like the Vánagandr, the Azhi Dahāka is equipped with a 120mm smoothbore cannon and twin 12.7mm machine guns. Unlike the Vánagandr, however, it was a single-seat unit, where the operator handled both piloting and firing at once. Its armor thickness was also not that different from the Vánagandr, however due to its additional combat weight totaling up to 70 tonnes, it can crack the Löwe's relatively thin top armor by ramming it from overhead. It also supported several additional armaments such as "Blade" drivers in its front pair of legs for melee engagements, eight operational deployable armor plates for supplemental defense, and external speakers for psychological warfare.
Mobility[]
The Azhi Dahāka's most striking feature was it's special high-output driving system pack capable of moving its weight with speeds that rivaled the Legion and allowed its unusual weight to strike with surprising speed. Despite being heavier than the Vánagandr or the Löwe, it is capable of jumping and leaping freely throughout the battlefield like a warhorse. Its weight was 70 tonnes because of this powerful driving system, the cooling system needed to match it, and the buffering system that kept the unit from destroying itself.
With these, it achieved an extreme amount of speed that would shake up any operator, making it impossible to control the machine with just experience and intuition. Thus, it required robust operators capable of its overly high, excessive acceleration, and intense inertia. Additionally, its control system is extremely sensitive and its power system is difficult to handle and prone to problems if the output dropped even a little. The Azhi Dahāka's exhaust noise is also described as deafening and overbearing, like a dragon's roar.[2]
