Alice Araish (アリス・アライシュ, Arisu Araishu?) was a minor character in the main 86 -Eighty Six- series and the deuteragonist of the Fragmental Neoteny: Pledge prequel story.

She was the captain of the Halberd Squadron, the first squadron that Shin was part of. Alice was the person who gave him his blue scarf and the origin of his promise to carry the fragments of his fallen comrades' Juggernauts.

Appearance[]

Alice was a beautiful young woman with long, straight ink-black hair and the eyes of a Jet. She usually wore a forest-camouflage uniform and a blue scarf.[1]

Personality[]

As the captain of the Halberd Squadron, Alice was a fair and understanding leader. She showed neither favoritism nor discrimination toward any members of her squadron.

Background[]

Alice was born in the Republic of San Magnolia as the oldest child in her family. She was sent to the internment camps at the age of 13 and witnessed her younger brother's death as he fell ill. After his passing, Alice developed a bad habit of scratching her neck raw whenever she thought of him.

Eventually, she was conscripted as a Processor and transferred to the Republic's Eastern Front.

Noticing Alice's habit, her squadron's captain couldn't bear the sight and gave his scarf to quell her urge. It became a memento to her as the captain had finished his term and was reassigned to the Spearhead Squadron.

Alice went on to become a Name Bearer and survived the Eighty-Sixth Sector for three years.

Chronology[]

Volume 7: Mist[]

Guren Akino mentions Alice upon noticing Shin and Olivia Aegis conversing. He comments on how because Olivia resembles Alice, it feels like Shin is talking with his former squad captain again. Lena overhears Guren, and inquires about who Alice was. He explains Alice and Olivia's likeness in appearance due to their shared Jet blood, and notes that their personalities are also strikingly similar. He also notes that Alice was the captain of Shin's first squadron after he'd just been drafted, and that Shin had grown attached to her during that time. This leads Lena to assume Shin has developed feelings for Olivia, a misunderstanding that Shin would later clear up.
